Perception Neuron is an affordable motion capturing system manufactured by Noitom. The detailed information about the system can be found on the official website https://neuronmocap.com. The lab is now responsible for maintaining a Duo package of the first generation of Perception Neuron which contains 32 sensors and can capture two actors' movements at the same time. With simple and quick setup and calibration, the system is really a time-saving equipment for motion capturing. However, electromagnetic interference is always the first and most important concern when using this equipment.
In the project of Virtual Coach, the lab used Perception Neuron to capture a variety of movements of TaiChi, Yoga, baseball, basketball and billiard ball which were demonstrated by human coaches and then fed the data into iClone to build up corresponding FBX files. After combining those FBX files with the APP's user interface and operating scenarios in Unity, the virtual coaches can play vividly on the PC screen, mobile devices, and even HoloLens. The project is still running and more versions of the Virtual Coach APP will show up soon.
