In addition to the 64-channel EEG system of SynAmps2, the lab also has four EPOC headsets and one Insight headset made by Emotiv from which you can find more details on their website https://www.emotiv.com/.  With different goals to be achieved, SynAmps 2 is used to accomplish many kinds of academic studies, such as visual awareness, emotion, cognition and other topics while EPOC and Insight are used to serve as brain-computer-interface (BCI) platforms for edutainment purposes such the project of the Harry Potter's Sorting Hat in which we attempt to implement the sorting hat in the famous movie with EPOC or Insight.
EPOC is a saline-based headset and has 14 channels along with 9 axis motion sensors. It is easy to wear and calibrate. In most conditions, we can start collecting EEG data within five minutes of preparation. The wireless connection is another great advantage for us to adopt EPOC as the BCI platform. Insight headset has only five channels but the semi-dry electrode design makes it even more suitable in the "plug-and-play" situation of BCI applications. However, both kinds of headsets have low sampling rates and just a few A/D converters which makes them less capable of doing sophisticated EEG analysis.
