Dr. Schuhfreid's Biofeedback 2000 x-pert is a Bluetooth based bio-signal recorder. It is colorful, easy to wear and not preventing the participant from moving freely. It contains skin conductance, heartbeat, respiration, temperature, brain wave, and muscle potential sensors to collect almost all the bio-signals we need for emotion or lie-detection studies. With correct positioning of EMG electrodes, it can even collect precise ECG data for further analysis of many popular HRV indices used pervasively in emotion research domain, such as SDNN, RMSSD, LF, HF, and LF/HF etc.
The lab used Biofeedback 2000 x-pert to help graduate school students to accomplish their studies. Their topics included physiological indices of emotions induced by various kinds of movies, emotional responses displayed while the participant playing Texas Hold'em, and HRV responses of Yoga experts and naive participants. In addition to academic research, the lab is now coming up with ideas of combining bio-signals with customized personal consuming and interacting experiences. We believe that in the new era of Big Data, bio-signals will play an important role and so as the precise but friendly bio-signal detectors.
